We recently sat down with Filthy Richardson to learn more about him and his music.

Us: How did you come up with your artist name?

Filthy Richardson: At first it was J-Rich cuz my name is Joshua Richardson but it was way too basic to me, I was chilling in my boy crib one day maybe 2 years ago and I was so focused on changing my name on that particular day for some reason, I don’t why it’s kinda funny, but anyways filthy rich popped into my head and there’s already a rapper named Philthy Rich and the way I’d have it spelled is mad basic too so I just thought of Richardson after filthy instead of just rich, and it was just stuck with me I guess.

Us: What inspired you to start making music?

Filthy Richardson: Music was the one first things in my life that I realized I could live without. Like even if I didn’t make it, I’d need it. But making music was also something that I really excelled at and enjoyed. I feel like I’m good enough for it to be my job and I feel most comfortable when I’m making music so why not?

Us: Who is/are your biggest influence(s) and why?

Filthy Richardson: I would have to say Kanye is my biggest influence mainly cuz he made it seem cool to make music period, watching his music videos growing up and seeing how creative he was in how his sound changed along with his image definitely was something that made me want to pursue music.

Us: What do you want your fans to feel when they hear your music?

Filthy Richardson:I want my fans to feel good about life, just living period. I also want them to feel where I come from. East Harlem.

Us: What can we expect from you? What are you working on? What do you have coming out?

Filthy Richardson: You can expect some visuals from me in the very near future, both for new songs and songs that are out now on both the FILTHY UCHIHA and PAPI SUCIO projects. I’m releasing a single in a few days that I feel can take me places too, I’m really confident about how far it take me and I really can’t wait to release it, I feel like it’s something special. I might be on a collaboration project or I might drop my 3rd project named it’s “It’s Possible” this year, but I really wanna take my time on my upcoming projects cuz I enough material out already.
