The Tale of The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind The Madness

The Tale of The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind The Madness

“Tell ‘em this boy wasn’t meant for lovin'” – The Weeknd

After eagerly waiting and anticipating the release of The Weeknd’s second studio album, Beauty Behind The Madness, August 28, 2015 finally arrived. So yesterday (8/26/15) I devised a game-plan to visit a Target store at 9 AM before my 10 AM appointment with a very important client. I figured that if I’m going to close a big deal, I should be pretty hyped going into my meeting. As I’m preparing to leave home, I receive an email from another client requesting some information. I’m thinking, “Great, now I’m running behind schedule.” While responding to the email all I could think of was getting to the electronic department of Target and the album being sold out. This motivated me to type quickly.

Finally, I hit the rode and realize that I’m 10 minutes behind schedule. Austin, TX traffic is very unforgiving in the morning, but I knew that all I needed was 5 minutes to run into the store to purchase the album. After battling traffic, I made it into the Target parking lot still behind schedule. I rush into the store, juking in and out of aisles trying to make it to the CDs fast. As I walk up to the “New Releases” section, my worst nightmares are realized, the album is not there. So I frantically head to the electronic station and ask a gentleman who was opening boxes. He lifted his Walkie-Talkie and requested an electronic department employee to go to the station. I could’ve sworn I saw an angel approach me. He asked, “What’s up, what do you need?” I said, “I’m looking for the new The Weeknd album.” He said these magical words, “Yeah man, it’s in the back. We haven’t put them on the shelves yet.” I immediately felt a sense of relief. He came back with a handful of albums and handed me a copy. I couldn’t believe that I was the first person in that area to own a physical copy of The Weeknd’s new album.

My Review

This album was AMAZING! From start to finish, The Weeknd provided an experience that is hard to get when listening to an album. The production was on point, mixing was great, and the mastering was the icing on the cake. I praise The Weeknd for being bold and creative using heavy distortion and reverb in “The Hills.” Music now a days is very safe and to hear something so bold for 14 tracks made me very appreciative. With features like Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, and Labrinth Beauty Behind The Madness is a pure work of art. Of course his lyrics are full of drunk and drug induced sexual experiences, but there is a lot of beauty in his delivery. On a scale from 1 to 5, I give this album a solid 5. This album deserves at a minimum a Grammy nomination, but I believe it should receive a Grammy. This is truly Beauty and pure Madness!
