How Are You Going To Get There?

How Are You Going To Get There?

February 21st, 2017

It’s summer 1996, and Bone Thugs N’ Harmony is dominating that Billboard 100 with their single “Crossroads”. It’s at this pivotal point, you make the decision that you hope will change your life forever. You decide you want to be a rap star. So the question now is, “how do you get there?” Well it won’t be a simple process, first you’ll have to craft an entire rhyme for yourself. 8 bars for a hook, and three 16 bar verses. Next, you’ll have to find a friend that has a microphone and an 8 track recorder because you’re going to need a demo tape.

I’ll pause here to say that none of this will be cheap, no one is going to allow you to record for free, why do you think Jay-Z sold crack to fiends before he made it? You’ll have to continue with that day job, as much as you don’t want to, because that’s the only legal way to pay for your studio time. So let’s say you were able to write your rhyme, and you were able to raise the funds to record your demo, now comes the hard part, that’s right, the hard part. Now you’ve got to find someone to listen to your demo tape and decide you’re worth investing the hundreds of thousands of dollars necessary to record, promote, and distribute a rap album. Sounds tough huh? This is what it was like for hundreds of artists like yourselves 20 years ago, before the advent of the internet. Now, deciding you want a rap career is as easy as deciding what you want from the McDonalds dollar menu.

Every day, every minute, every second, a new artist records a song and posts it on the internet, in the hopes of being the next rap star. So now the challenge isn’t recording your song and getting people to listen to it. That can all be done in a day’s time. The challenge is figuring out how to separate yourself from the pack, how to do something that no one else is doing, how to outwork everyone else. That’s where comes in. Most other sites take all power away from the artist, you post your music and tell everyone where to go listen and that’s it.

We here at, want to give you the power. We’re not just a website to post music onto, we want to partner with you, share in our mutual success, and put you in a league all your own. So the question is now, the same as it’s always been, you decide you want to be a rap star, how will you get there?
